Off-The-Shelf

Flat Roof Carport or Skillion Roof Carport – they are the same. Single skillion carports come with a simple, yet sometimes stylish profile. Skillion roof carports are made with a minimal pitch or slope, unlike the misnomer of them being called “flat” roofs.

Skillions or Flat roof carports are ideal for any location and can be custom-built to suit your requirements. The Budget Carport Kits above are probably the cheapest conforming, (coming with an Australian Standards certificate), carport available in Australia. They come in two different clearance heights and four different colours and include base plates for installation. Imported steel from China is used to manufacture Budget Carports in Australia.. That is why they are so much cheaper, but they do have a 15-year warranty. You cannot modify or customize them; they are unchangeable, so their appearance is as seen. Cyclonic areas do not allow these to be installed.

Skillion – Flat Roof by Lysaght

This carport kit is all-Australian Steel and all-Australian-made. You get a very long warranty because it is made with Colorbond steel. The Lysaght Flat Lite Carport is a more attractive carport than the Budget carport and is also available in a cyclonic version. It is designed for in-ground installation but base plates can be supplied in NSW only. The legs are supplied in 3m lengths so in most cases around 600mm must be buried in concrete. The Lysaght Flat Roof Skillion comes as a single or double carport kit and again this is an off-the-shelf product and cannot be altered or customised in any way.

Professional Choice

Professional Choice supplies skillion carport kits suitable for residential and commercial use, with a range of designs, all made from 100% Australian High tensile steel and Colorbond roof. No carport design is too big or small for us! The Skillion Carports, also known as flat-roofed carports are the most versatile installation for your project.

The Professional Choice Skillion Roof Carport is a high-quality carport built using only high-tensile Australian Steel and it is simply the best-made carport available in Australia.

Mass/Weight

Australian High Tensile Steel is many times stronger than the mild steel supplied by cheaper Budget Carports and it is heavier than mild steel.

A Budget Double kit comes in a flat pack that weighs just 280kg. A Lysaght Double kit, made of all-Australian steel, is just under 300Kg delivered. A Professional Choice Double Carport kit is around 750kg (it varies on wind region and clearance height). This huge difference in mass/weight demonstrates the huge difference in quality. Professional Choice engineers are some of the most experienced in Australia and they know that if a double carport is truly made to Australian Standards, it cannot possibly be done with less than 720kg of steel. The cheaper carports may come with certification but it is obvious that they do not fully conform to the Australian Standards.

All professional Choice carports are custom made and certification is site-specific. As they are custom-made, they can be designed in any length, depth, Colorbond colour or clearance height.

Imported Steel and Carports that don’t conform to Australian Standards

Don’t be fooled by mild steel imports from your Australian suppliers. Professional Choice supply products that will outlive you and will never be damaged in high winds in any area of Australia. Professional Choice Skillion kits are made to your exact specifications in your local city. Prices include delivery to almost all Australians. Our flat roof product can be installed DIY with their state-of-the-art plans complete with a Q Reader to take you to a YouTube video if you strike any problems.

Prices shown are for supply only, but we can put you in touch with installation contractors in most capital cities. You will have an exceptionally long Colorbond warranty as well as an exceptional finished product that will stand the test of time.

Costs of Carport Installation

Costs vary considerably but all Professional Choice Skillion carports come with plans that most people with DIY skills can install by themselves. The second less expensive option is to hire a handyman and give him some help to hold parts as he installs.

A Professional Trade person will probably charge a minimum of $100 per hour for their labour. They may spend 3 or 4 hours in one day concreting in the posts, (assume that a slab is already down), and another 5 or 6 hours the following day erecting the full structure. Most tradespeople will be accompanied by a ‘helper’ or apprentice, so it is safe to double the $1000 for 10 hours making around $2000.  Installs in Region A and B can typically be installed using base plates, reducing costs to one full day’s work.

What is the best height?

The best height for a carport is the height you need to store your vehicles or equipment. A minimum of 2.1m can be reduced to the most common height of 2.4m. Any reasonable clearance height can be designed for a custom-made kit. Customers often want one to store their caravan or RV so their choice must always be a custom-made carport. This will ensure they have the clearance needed for storage.

Summary – How Much Does a Carport Cost
