A “flat roof carport” doesn’t really exist because if it was flat, the water would stay on the roof, so Flat roof Carports are Skillion Carports. Roofs must have a small angle or ‘pitch’ to allow the water to run into the gutter. The pitch places the gutter at its low end. The angle or pitch of the roof doesn’t need to be much, as little as 2-degrees depending on the roof material.
Skillion Carports or ‘flat roof carports’ will have a 5 or more usually, 2-degree pitch. A skillion is a flat roof but not quite as the roof has this small pitch to allow water to flow.

Dimensions of your Skillion Carport – Supply your lowest clearance point!
A Skillion carport has a pitch therefore there is a high side and a low side. It is important to give the height dimension as the minimum clearance required, that is, the desired low-side clearance. The larger the carport, the more bigger difference in the low side and the high side clearance. Even on a 6 x 6 double skillion carport, the difference could be over a metre.

Skillion roof patios and carport roof profile options
The three options available are:-

Spandek and Trimdek are probably more ‘modern’ options and Custom Orb is the same profile as the old, corrugated iron look. You can view these profiles by clicking the “three options” link above.
Note also that the Trimdek and Spandek option can be supplied with a 2 degree or 5 degree pitch but Custom Orb must be a minimum 5 degree pitch.
Professional Choice Skillion Carports are supplied with genuine COLORBOND steel for all models. You can choose from many colour options with Colorbond. Colorbond registers all its colours as trademarks. “Mist Green, Smooth Cream, Slate Grey” are common examples of cheaper, thinner imported steel and are NOT Colorbond colours and do not have the same long Colorbond warranty.

Simple installation
A skillion roof carport is the easiest design to assemble. In comparison to a Hip roof or Gable Carport it does not have as many parts makings it less expensive and easier to install. You always have the option of base plates on an existing slab which makes it even easier.
Simple Skillion Carport Guttering
The water run-off with a Skillion carport only goes to one side so only one set of guttering. This can also make it easier to capture your rainwater if you want to store it for the garden.
Solar- Ready Skillion Carports – Flat roof Carports are Skillion Carports
Be aware, not all flat roof carports are equal! Professional Choice introduced the first flat roof carports strong enough to take an additional 20kg per square metre on the roof. This is essential if you want to add extra weight in the way of solar panels. Most carports in Australia are barely capable of supporting their own weight and if it’s not Professional Choice, you should not think about adding extra weight. That said, the Skillion roof carport design is great for installing solar panels and capturing the sun’s energy.
